Building an outfit is a bit like setting a beautiful table: it's all about harmony. Here are my favorite color combinations — the ones I constantly find in beautiful second-hand pieces.
We often think that a beautiful wardrobe requires many colors. It's the opposite. The wardrobes I admire most are based on a handful of shades that complement each other, season after season. Once this foundation is laid, getting dressed in the morning becomes a pleasure — never again a chore.
1. The duo that never disappoints: beige & terracotta
Beige warms, terracotta adds character. Together, they create a soft and luminous silhouette, ideal from spring to autumn. Ecru pants, a terracotta knit, and you're all set. This is the combination I always recommend to those starting a minimalist wardrobe.
2. For freshness: sage green & ecru
Sage green is my guilty pleasure — you'll have noticed it in the shop. Paired with ecru or off-white, it evokes the crumpled linen of a quiet Sunday. A sage blazer over a cream shirt: understated, natural, and terribly chic.
3. To twist a classic: brown & powder pink
Brown structures, powder pink softens. It's the perfect combination to warm up a somewhat strict piece — a suit, a trench coat. I like to add a touch of pink near the face: a scarf, a top, a light shawl. The light does the rest.
My three simple rules
- Two colors, sometimes three. Beyond that, the silhouette gets muddled. A restricted and well-maintained palette is better.
- One dominant, one accent. Choose a shade that takes up space, and another that punctuates — never in equal parts.
- Neutrals are your allies. Ecru, beige, soft khaki, mottled grey: they go with everything and let stronger colors breathe.
Second-hand is an ideal playground for experimenting: affordable prices allow you to dare a shade you would never have bought new. And that's often where the prettiest surprises arise.
Happy discoveries in your wardrobe,
Manon
